A room, in architecture, is any distinguishable space in a structure. A room can be anything from a bedroom to a kitchen, we all know that. But what about the rooms that aren't counted as architecture? Are there other spaces or locations in our world that we can see as rooms? With the help of this blog and my hopefully brilliant mind I will research anything on this subject hoping to achieve some interesting results.

To start this incredible work, I have set up some questions about rooms. I'd really appreciate it if you would take the time to answer them. Feel free to say anything, you can comment anonymously, with your account or just with your name. Whatever works for you! I've also filled it in, as an example.

1. What's your favourite room at home and why?
2. What's your favourite room outside your home and why? (eg: an elevator or something)
3. Least favourite room(s) and why?
4. When you're in public, in what kind of "space" do you feel comfortable?
5. What makes a room a room (in your opinion!)?
6. Other thoughts about "rooms"?

Thanks for reading x

  1. 1. What's your favourite room at home and why? Bedroom, because of the bed, the snuggly sofa and the tv.
    2. What's your favourite room outside your home and why? A train compartment, it's comfortable, warm and it's one of the few rooms I can read a book.
    3. Least favourite room(s) and why? A waiting room, a staircase and a crowded bus where you have to stand up.
    4. When you're in public, in what kind of "space" do you feel comfortable? A train compartment and a metro (where I can sit).
    5. What makes a room a room (in your opinion!)? Feeling at ease, busy in your own world. Sitting on a park bench reading a book even gives me a feeling of a "room". There just happens to be a lot of grass, trees and people in the room.
    6. Other thoughts about "rooms"? Not for today.

  4. 1. What's your favourite room at home and why?
Honestly? The bathroom, 'cause there I can put my music loud and sing and it's always nice and warm there. :D
    2. What's your favourite room outside your home and why? (eg: an elevator or something)
A cinema, I could go every day if I had the chance, I just love movies.
    3. Least favourite room(s) and why?
Somewhere dark (I'm easily scared) or a hospital.
    4. When you're in public, in what kind of "space" do you feel comfortable?
A train or the place where I eat lunch with my friends at school.
    5. What makes a room a room (in your opinion!)?
When you can feel comfortable there and when you can tell that they made an effort to make you feel that way.
    6. Other thoughts about "rooms"?
I don't spend a lot of time in my own room, I like being with other people more. (Not sure if it's relevant though :D)

  5. 1. What's your favourite room at home and why?
My room, of course! I have total privacy in my room, and I love my bed, I can lay down and watch movies on my laptop or go online without being interrupted by anyone. And my bedroom is the only room in the house custom-made for me, I'm free to decorate any way I like.

    2. What's your favourite room outside your home and why? (eg: an elevator or something)
Sitting at a picnic table on my school's campus and studying or reading - because it's so easy to block everyone out and I feel completely at peace and secluded when I'm outside, compared to when I'm in a crowded room. Bookstores, movie theaters, breakfast cafes... I just feel at ease in these places, enjoying the things I love; books, movies, and eating a big breakfast!

    3. Least favourite room(s) and why?
Waiting rooms, hospitals, funeral homes. They all bring back bad memories, and they are all places I would like to avoid in the future.

    4. When you're in public, in what kind of "space" do you feel comfortable?
An open space, one that isn't too crowded or loud.

    5. What makes a room a room (in your opinion!)?
A sense of comfort, belonging, acceptance.

    6. Other thoughts about "rooms"?
A room is somewhere you feel comfortable being alone, but you also feel just as comfortable having friends with you. A room reflects your personality - even if it's not your personal room. For example, a bookstore is a place for people who have a love for reading.

  6. Comment from Ornella:
    1. What's your favourite room at home and why? I guess the living room, I don't really know why, maybe because my room is too messy all the time, and the couch is so comfy :).
    2. What's your favourite room outside your home and why? (eg: an elevator or something) A train, it's just a place where I can read or listen to music without being bothered by anyone. And I like the fact that I'm going somewhere new or somewhere special :). I don't really take the train that often :D.
    3. Least favourite room(s) and why? Basement, 'cause it's always dark and scary :o.
    4. When you're in public, in what kind of "space" do you feel comfortable? Outside I think ?
    5. What makes a room a room (in your opinion!)? I think walls ? Or just any place you like spending time...
    6. Other thoughts about "rooms"? Not really ? Sorry :)
